Born in 1968 in Konya, Assoc. Prof. Yücel Akbaş graduated from Ankara Science High School in 1986. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and started his specialization in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ear Nose and Throat. Assoc. Prof. Akbaş, who became an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist in 1996, worked as a lecturer in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine ENT Department until 2000. He served as Associate Professor in Mersin University Faculty of Medicine ENT Department in 2005 and as Clinical Chief at Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital until 2008.
He was an observer in the Methodist Hospital Head and Neck Surgery Department for voice rehabilitation and surgical treatment of head and neck cancers after total laryngectomy for 2 months, and for facial plastic surgery at Arkansas University School of Medicine ENT Head and Neck Surgery Facial Plastic Surgery Department for 3 months. He also attended the temporal bone and endoscopic sinus surgery cadaver dissection course at Georgia Ear Institute.
He has a total of 65 published publications, 24 in Turkey and 41 abroad. His main areas of interest are ear diseases, head and neck cancer treatment. He is married and has two sons.
He continues his professional life as Chief Physician at Galleria ENT Center, of which he is one of the founding partners.
